Mystery Files: Return to Ravenhearst is another installment in the hugely popular Mystery Case Files hidden objects game series. This sequel follows on from the MCF: Ravenhearst game, revisiting a transformed Ravenhearst Manor.
MCF: Return to Ravenhearst continues the story of Emma Ravenhearst, whose spirit was placated and whose murder was discovered in MCF: Ravenhearst. However, subsequent installments have revealed that the case is far from closed, and Emma's supernatural murderer is still at large. You therefore return to Ravenhearst Manor in order to tie up loose ends in this baffling case, at the personal request of Her Majesty the Queen (no, really)!
Return to Ravenhearst marks a departure from the format of the previous MCF installments. Rather than having discrete hidden object puzzles to solve, you now get to experience a fully fleshed out adventure. You explore the haunted manor as the engrossing story slowly unfolds, and all the puzzles and games are seamlessly entwined, giving the game the feel of an epic adventure game rather than a standard hidden object product.
And there are over 150 puzzles in this game, making this the biggest MCF game so far. And users have reported that the puzzles are slightly more difficult than before, and the hidden objects are more complicated and harder to pick out. Overall giving the avid gamer a greater challenge.
The art has also been overhauled, featuring beautiful painted landscapes and intricate designs. In standard hidden object games, the scenes look like random objects have been cut and pasted together to form a hidden object puzzle. In this game, the hidden objects are so perfectly immersed in the background, that players are finding it difficult to spot them!
For those of you who fondly remember the signature "locked door" puzzles that were the feature puzzles in previous MCF games, do not fear. These puzzles return with even greater complexity and more vivid designs, such as the one pictured to the left.
Return to Ravenhearst is a huge game, larger than the previous installments in this series. You are guaranteed that you will spend many enjoyable hours unravelling the remaining mysteries surrounding Ravenhearst Manor, and hopefully providing poor Emma with the chance to finally rest in peace.
If you like this game, you might also enjoy the rest of the Mystery Case Files series.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
